Editorial Illustration for The Rumpus

This story by Tammy Delatorre is so evocative and well written, which is why it was selected by Cheryl Strayed as the winner of the first annual Payton Prize. I was thrilled to be asked to do the accompanying illustrations. I attempted to infuse them with the vibrant colors of hawaii, while also giving them a nostalgic feeling without them being overtly melancholic. It was a pleasure and an honor to work on these.
