ROOM

I took on my first interior design project in December of 2019. What I did not know at this time was that the world was about to change dramatically in just a few short weeks. I signed the contract with the builders in January and we demo’ed the interior of the place we had just closed on.

I was in the process of looking to hire an interior designer by researching local SF based designers that mesh with our style and narrowing our choices down when…well! Everything in daily life ground to a near halt…except for essential workers who I still am grateful for and bang pots and pans in my heart in appreciation of.

Prior to things grinding to a complete halt, a beloved lifelong family friend in my hometown in Tennessee passed away and I went to his service. I was there in my mask when the notice went out that SF was closing down completely.

So, I cut my hometown trip short and flew back to quarantine from my family for 12 days then to all quarantine together in our tiny Victorian house. Once I was clear of having caught covid on my probably definitely ill advised mourning trip hometown-ward, I continued meeting with our builders virtually and decided to do the interior myself since finding a designer just got so much more problematic.

I worked with Archive Modern Homes on the interior and Fineroot on the exterior and we navigated supply chain issues, shutdowns and communicated about plumbing fixtures, finishes and tiles and wood floors and fireplace features and every detail of building a house inside and out. I made every interior choice and detailed what we wanted for the exterior choices and my amazing team who are experts in drainage [exterior] and permitting [both exterior and interior] worked with me to execute this vision and we got this project done in 1.5 years during all of our first pandemic experience.

I learned so much doing this work and one other project since, that I am now pursuing interior design as a facet of my design work. In bocca al lupo!
